Travel is a part of life for many people – for work, for pleasure, and for family, especially in the summer. While it might be great fun, staying fit on-the-go isn’t always easy. So how can you get in shape, or stay that way, when you’re always on the road?
We know a bit about staying fit under less than ideal circumstances, so we’ve put together some tips to help you.
- Prioritize movement
It’s easy to let other things get in the way of exercising, especially when you’re traveling. The only way to really make it happen is to prioritize exercise. One of the easiest ways to do that is to commit to a short exercise session every day, no matter where you may be. It can be something as simple as a short Pilates session in your hotel room or a ten-minute walk around your hotel.
- Convenience is key
People love convenience, and that is just as true when it comes to exercise. So if you pack your Pilates basics and a comfortable set of exercise clothes, you’ll be far more likely to make time for exercise. Your method of travel can dictate what you can bring with you, but it’s pretty easy to bring a simple mat, even if you’re flying.
- Don’t overdo it!
Sometimes people jump into exercise with both feet, but it is easy to overdo it. Not only can that lead to injury, but it can also set you up for failure, especially when you have limited time due to travel. So, be kind to yourself when you’re on the road by letting go of the higher expectations you may have while you’re at home. Instead, give yourself permission to do a realistic amount of exercise on-the-go.
One of the best things about Pilates is that it is very easy to take it with you as you travel. You don’t need any special equipment; all you need is a bit of motivation. Additionally, it only takes a few minutes to make a difference, so Pilates will work for you even if you have a very tight schedule!
