We know, we know – everyone talks about resolutions and most people give them up before the first month is in the books. The fact that most people don’t achieve their resolutions shouldn’t keep you from trying to reach a bit higher in 2018, however. Instead, it should inspire you!
You can make 2018 the best year ever by dedicating a couple of those yearly resolutions to Pilates. Here are some reasonable, achievable Pilates-related goals for your consideration.
- Make regular practice the goal.
You know your schedule and obligations better than anyone, and you also know your limits. So when you’re making your goals, aim for something that works in your unique situation. This might mean daily for some, but it might also mean weekly for others – it doesn’t matter, just as long as you’re working toward regular practice.
- Select one area of struggle to improve at a time.
It’s easy to be overwhelmed when you’re looking to improve your Pilates practice. There are so many variables to consider – flexibility, form, balance, strength and breathing – that improving your technique can seem impossible. Instead of trying to fix everything at once, select one area that you struggle in and work to improve it. This gives you a smaller, more achievable goal.
- Reward yourself for effort.
Perfection is impossible. In fact, there is simply no such thing. So instead of beating yourself up over not having perfect technique, reward yourself for the effort you’re putting into your Pilates work. This is actually a good principle for other areas of your life as well. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about the journey – so relax and enjoy it!
