Everyone knows that you should always talk to your doctor before starting a new diet or exercise routine. This makes sense, especially if you have any kind of health considerations. But, are there things you should tell your Pilates instructor about your health?
Today we’re going to talk about some of the health information you should disclose to your Pilates instructor to help them understand your needs, limitations, and abilities.
1. If you’re pregnant, or think you might be, you should let your instructor know right away. They can adapt moves to fit your needs and your expanding tummy, which will affect things such as your center of gravity and balance.
2. If you have joint or spine troubles, you should describe them to your instructor. Let them know the severity of your issues before you get started, along with any discomfort you feel during practice.
3. If you have any heart issues, it’s important to let your instructor know. This includes problems such as arrhythmia. Not only should you tell them about it, you should tell them the types of symptoms you might have, so they know what to look for should you experience any problem.
4. If you have any type of chronic condition, such as diabetes or arthritis, you should disclose it to your instructor. This will help them understand your unique needs and potential limitations.
In reality, these are only a few of the things you might need to disclose. If you have any issues that impact your mobility or endurance, it’s important to speak up. Remember, they are your advocate but to help you reach your fullest potential, they need to understand your challenges and limitations.
